Yrjo Migchelsen is a fire investigator, certified by the International Association of Arson Investigators Inc. (IAAI) as a Fire Investigation Technician (FIT), with more than 20 years of experience in the maritime world of which the last 8 years as a fire investigator for BMT Netherlands B.V.

During his time at sea, he sailed on various types of ocean-going vessels up to the rank of first engineer. In this dynamic environment at sea, he learned to improvise, to cooperate under changing and challenging circumstances and to acquire a lot of (practical) knowledge of technical aspects and installations. Partly due to his motto 'There is no sea too high', Yrjo was able to find a solution to every problem.

After his career at sea, he made the switch to an importer/dealer in the field of internal transport, heavy-duty forklift trucks and container handling as technical service manager where his solution-oriented way of working and personal and proactive attention to the customer served him well in the motto 'Service is the key to customer loyalty'.

In 2010 Yrjo started at BMT where he worked as a technical expert investigating technical and fire related cargo and ship damages. Since 2012, with the confidence of BMT, Yrjo has successfully set up and expanded BMT's current fire department and foresees further growth in the future. Yrjo has investigated various types of fires including over 25 international ship fires. By focusing on the objective investigation process and through close cooperation with, among others, tactical investigators and specialists in the field of, for example, electrical and automotive engineering, Yrjo always tries to achieve the highest possible result for the client.

Besides his drive to keep developing himself, Yrjo also finds it important to stay inspired. Part of his inspiration, in addition to his work in practice, Yrjo finds since 2017 as a lecturer at the Fire Brigade Academy (IFV) and as a company supervisor of trainees of the Forensic Investigation course of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam.
