"How it should be done is interesting. How it actually should, can and is done is even more interesting"
Roel Ritsma is an electrical engineer and works on the safety and reliability of electrical installations.
He has some 20 years of experience in the industry, both in product development and in testing and certifying components for electrical installations. In 2008, he started a company with the core activities of inspecting electrical installations and carrying out research and consultancy work. The step into practice meant a new experience: theory is willing but practice is sometimes obstinate. In his view, it is precisely the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience of electrical installations that gives added value to investigations: a broad basis for being able to place factual findings, partly in the light of human actions.
Since 2017, Ritsma has been working from research and consultancy firm ERCD and on an ad hoc basis for BMT Fire Research. He is a chairperson of the NEC 121, the Dutch standards committee for industrial switchgear and distribution systems for low voltage, editor of the electrotechnical knowledge bases of BIM Media and author of the book 'Panel building is a profession'. As a technical teacher, he is active in NEN training courses and the Fire Brigade Academy (IFV), among others.
Roel assists NLOI in investigations where the electrical installation of a building may play a role in causing damage.
